Mission and Activities

CEBHEM aims at exploring the economic and social history of the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East through the study and preservation of archives and collections concerning businesses and economic actors in the area.
Cooperation arrangements are being expanded with research institutions in the region and beyond. Assistance is offered to identify, evaluate and find ways to save relevant holdings in private, corporate and public institutional ownership.
At its Tübingen base, CEBHEM is building a documentation of primary research and archival material in reproduction. This collection will be made accessible partly on-line, partly on microfilm.

CEBHEM edits the yearbook "Studies in Economic and Business History of the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East", a forum for current research and the presentation of new sources and resources. An on-line newsletter disseminates CEBHEM's working papers and circulates up-to-date information on events and activities. A series of bi-annual conferences will regularly place CEBHEM's research activities into wider historical and methodological contexts.
