"...Die Sinne betrügen nicht. Nicht, weil sie immer richtig urteilen, sondern weil sie gar nicht urteilen; weshalb der Irrtum immer nur dem Verstande zur Last fällt..."

"...The senses don't deceive. Not, because they judge always correctly. Rather, they do not judge at all. Therefore the mistake is always the one of understanding..."

Immanuel Kant

As the interface between the sensory periphery and the higher cortical areas, primary sensory cortical areas translate the sensory information in information interpretable to the brain. Functional and anatomial reorganization in this interface induced by central or peripheral lesions might impair these translation processes leading to misinterpretations by the brain. As a consequence, the communication between primary sensory and higher cortical areas has to be recalibrated. The main aim of our group is to study the principles underlying cortical reorganization and to find solutions to manipulate the plastic processes recalibrating the brain in a healthy manner.
