Career

For many years now, Simon Meisch has been working in various projects in the field of application-oriented ethics. From 2013 – 2017, Simon Meisch headed the Junior Research Group Ethics of Science in the Research for Sustainable Development. The group addressed ethical and epistemological challenges for the scientific field called research for sustainable development. In this context, Simon raised third party funding for projects such as Climate change in early modern times: New literary and cultural perspectives on sustainable development.  He was part of the successful project proposals on Environmental politics in the 21st Century (funded by the German Federal Environment Agency) and on Recirculation Aquaculture Systems – Positions of the Organic Sector (funded by German Federal Agency for Agriculture and Food).

From 2009 – 2012, Simon was research assistant in the EU project Value Isobars – The Landscape and Isobars of European Values in Relation to Science and Technology.

In the winter semester 2010/11, Simon was also acting scientific coordinator of the IZEW. Before, he was research assistant in the project Verantwortung wahrnehmen (Taking responsibility, 2009), in the managing office of the IZEW (2007-2009) and in the project Landesweites Wissenschaftliches Begleitprogramm zum Ethisch-Philosophischen Grundlagenstudium (2003 – 2005).

From 2005 – 2007, Simon received a full doctoral scholarship of the Postgraduate Research Grants Programme of Baden-Württemberg.

Simon studied Political Science (with a regional focus on Western Europe and the EU) and Modern German Literature in Tuebingen and Edinburgh. In 2013, he received a doctorate in Political Science from the University of Tuebingen. His thesis was about Scottish devolution and how institutional change in the political relations of Scotland and the UK occurred between path dependency and gradual change (Devolution in Schottland. Institutionelle Entwicklung zwischen Pfadabhängigkeit und graduellem Wandel).
