Combinatory Meaning Adaptions at the Semantics/Pragmatics Interface

A1 addressed combinatory meaning adaptions within sentence composition. The main research focus lay on underspecification and coercion involved in the interpretation of modificational structures. The results from the first two funding periods pointed towards a prominent role of the lexicon in combinatory meaning adaptions. These insights were developed further into a dynamic approach to lexical semantics. This is achieved by including adaptive mechanisms in the lexical setup which become active in the course of composition and are sensitive to both compositionally and contextually supplied information. In particular, we explored the benefits of this approach for an analysis of phenomena that are standardly conceived of as challenges for compositionality.
