Competence Modelling und Competence Development

Short Description

The project focuses on research and improvement of teacher education in the subjects English Studies (Prof. Dr. Matthias Bauer, PD Dr. Angelika Zirker, Nicole Poppe, Leonie Kirchhoff) and Mathematics (Prof. Dr. Frank Loose, Pascal Kilian, Jonathan Walz, Christoff Hische).

New approaches in competence modelling as well as separating didactic knowledge and subject knowledge are investigated. Since winter semester 2014/15 data is collected in lectures and seminars in the two subjects. The data is evaluated and interpreted in cooperation with the department of empirical educational research (Prof. Dr. Augustin Kelava)

Research Design

Currently, tools to assess competences are developed and applied in combination with questionnaires collecting background information on gender, study subjects and A-Level grade.

Evaluations take place in the beginning of each semester, covering alle newly enrolled teacher candidates in Mathematics and English Studies. Data is analysed with Item Response Theory (IRT) methods.
