Center of Islamic Theology (to open October 2011)

The University of Tübingen intends to open its Center of Islamic Theology on October 1, 2011. The University's central bodies (the Senate and the University Council) have passed the necessary resolutions.

The University of Tübingen has successfully obtained funding from the federal government, which, together with funding by the state of Baden-Württemberg, will make the new Center of Islamic Theology possible. The Center will be one of the University's central institutions.

The Center will be a fully integrated part of the University. The other branches of Theology, Islamic Studies, Political Science, Religious Studies and other related disciplines are offering their open and positive support for the project to ensure successful cooperation with the students, researchers and teachers who will be a part of it. The non-denominational disciplines of Islamic and Oriental Studies anticipate that the establishment of the Center of Islamic Theology will lead to a significant rise in student interest in their areas, as well as increased networking both within the University and with outside bodies.

The first professorial posts were advertized in March 2011 (see below). Teaching at the Center is scheduled to begin in the winter semester of 2011/2012.
