Changes in the Affiliation of Academics
Working on the project:
Description:
Given the high frequency with which academics change their affiliation these days and the positive evaluation of affiliation changes by appointments committees, the question regarding the effects of these changes on research productivity arises. It seems plausible that changes in affiliation are associated with an increase in human capital and social capital of the respective academic. A greater human and social capital could, in turn, render the researcher more successful within his or her academic career. This paper analyzes the relationship between affiliation changes and research productivity more closely and controls for factors such as personal characteristics of the academics, and size and reputation of the affiliated institutions.
