Enrolling at the University of Tübingen

You must enroll to take part in regular studies and assessment at the University of Tübingen. Enrollment makes you a student member of the University.

    

General

Enrollment at the University of Tübingen is done via the ALMA online portal. If you are already enrolled at the University of Tübingen and want to change or expand your study program, you need to apply for a  Change of Program.

  

Enrolling for basic studies with restricted admission

If applying for a restricted-admission subject, you must submit an application prior to enrollment. Details here Information for applicants. You can see which subject have restrictions on admission under Courses Available.

  

If you apply for a restricted-admission subject before the closing date, you usually receive notice of acceptance or rejection 2 - 4 weeks after the closing date. If you are allocated a place in your chosen study programs via an award procedure, the status of your online application will be change accordingly. Please log into the ALMA portal regularly to check your status. As soon as your status changes to “zugelassen/admitted”, you can accept the place in the program. Then your access to enroll online will be granted.

 

Your admission notice includes a deadline for enrollment which you must meet. In the case of an admission notice from “hochschulstart.de”, the Erklärungsfrist (deadline for acceptance) is also the closing date for you to complete your enrollment in writing and in its entirety. If you do not enroll by the date stipulated in the admission notice your admission lapses and the place will be given to the next applicant.

 

  

Enrolling for basic studies without restrictions on admission

The closing date for enrollments in subjects with no special requirements for admission ends

 

  • on 30 September for the following winter semester
  • on 31 March for the following summer semester

Please read the lower half of the portal landing page for the relevant information. Please register on that page and submit your application to enroll online there. After selecting a study program, you will be redirected automatically to the online enrollment application.

 

  

Enrolling for a Master’s or other graduate course

An application is required for admission to any Master’s program. If you apply for a Master’s program before the closing date, you usually receive notice of acceptance or rejection 2 - 4 weeks after the program’s closing date.  Your admission notice includes a deadline for enrollment which you must meet. If you do not enroll by the date stipulated in the admission notice your admission lapses and the place will be given to the next applicant.

 

Enrollment in Master’s degree programs is done via the ALMA online portal. Please read the lower half of the portal landing page for the relevant information. Please register on that page and submit your application to enroll online there. After selecting the program you have been admitted to, you will be asked to type in the code provided on your admission notice.

 

   

Enrollment as a non-German citizen

Non-Germans with German university entrance qualification and EU citizens undergo the same enrollment procedure as German students. EU citizens must also present their international certificates and document their German language skills at the office for the Advising and Admission of International Students. If you are applying for a restricted-admission subject, your presentation of documentation will be noted on your admission notice; if you are applying for a subject with no special requirements for admission, presentation will be certified.

 

All other international students must apply by

 

  • 15 July for the following winter semester
  • 15 January for the following summer semester

At our office for the Advising and Admission of International Students, international certificates are reviewed as university entrance requirements, German language documentation checked and admission notices issued.

Please register on that page and submit your application to enroll online there. After selecting the program you have been admitted to, you will be asked to type in the code either provided on your admission notice or issued to you at the office for Advising and Admission of International Students after your arrival in Tübingen.

Enrolling for a doctoral degree

Under a special rule for doctoral/Ph.D. candidates, they may enroll at any time during the semester. Enrollment as a doctoral candidate presupposes that you have already been accepted as a doctoral candidate by the faculty at which you plan to do your doctorate - and can present a valid statement to that effect when you enroll.
