Within the HERMES workpackage "Professional Development ICT courses" we will organise this year a workshop "Texts, corpora and language testing software: Tools for the language teacher" at the Agricultural University of Wroclaw, Poland, from 8^th to 11^th July, 2004 (English group; German group: 9^th to 12^th July).

Wroclaw, a beautiful historic town on the river Oder, offers a large number of attractions to the participants, which they will visit on an guided tour. Further information can be found under http://www.wroclaw.pl. The Agricultural University of Wroclaw is one of the oldest agricultural universities in Poland (http://www.ar.wroc.pl )

The workshop will focus on two aspects of ICT: One emphasis will be on the use of corpora in language classes for students of agriculture and related sciences, i.e. you will learn how to develop your own corpora and how you can use them for teaching, e.g. for vocabulary training, and for your class preparation. Second, we will explore the possibilities and advantages of language testing software, i.e. you will get familiar with authoring programmes for language testing and develop your own language test. Although the workshop is run in English and German only, it addresses language teachers at Universities and Colleges of Agriculture and Related Sciences as well as Technical Universities, teaching any language, as the content of the workshop can be adapted to most languages.

The fee for the workshop will be 100 euro (90 euro for registrations before June 11th). Please note: We will allow a further discount of 10% to every institution that registers more than one participant on one or two of this year's HERMES workshops!

The course fee includes:

• the training programme
• cultural programme on one evening
• coffee and tea during the breaks
• one evening dinner

Accommodation costs will be between 28 and 43 Euro (depending on the standard; including breakfast). The surrounding area offers various possibilities for lunch (not included in the course fee).
