Range of days determines the period of days during which day care centers and schools are closed. During this period, all contacts among children which would have happened in day care center or school are reduced by the child-child contacts at school [%], given in the section contact matrix. This contact reduction only affects children with asymptomatic infection or moderate disease, as severely sick children stay at home or need to be hospitalized. |

Contact intensification by child care gives the factor by which the contacts between children and adults (i.e. working adults and elderly) changes because children have to be supervised at home while day care centers and schools are closed. A factor of 1.0 indicates that no additional contacts occur (which should be equivalent with no home supervision at all), whereas a factor of 2.0 indicates that children have twice as many contacts with adults during this time. An increased contact rate between children and adults can also have the effect that children are more likely infected from adults if a factor > 1 is chosen here. |

We are not aware of published values of the Contact intensification by child care. As this parameter also strongly depends on the population which is modelled, the pre-set values may not adequately reflect reality. |

This intervention changes the entries in the contact matrix. |

As this intervention mainly affects transmission from children with asymptomatic infection or moderate disease, it relates to the course and duration of disease and to the disease-specific contagiousness. |
