Estimation of the post-exposure vaccine efficacy


Bifurcated needle ( IAFF)
An evaluation of historical data revealed that post-exposure vaccination with the smallpox vaccine may have protected some of the contacts from developing the disease. We found that vaccination up to 3.2 days after infection (95% confidence interval from 2.9 to 3.6 days) may protect against disease. These values must be interpreted cautiously because due to lack of information in the data arbitrary assumptions had to be made when deriving these results.
