Estimation of the residual vaccine protection against smallpox


Pockenpustel ( CDC)
An evaluation of historical data revealed that most people who were vaccinated once during infancy lost their protection against infection within one or two decades. Nevertheless, a high percentage of patients were protected against severe smallpox disease even years after vaccination, and many patients retained a life-long protection against fatal disease.
