InfluSim manual

General instructions

To be able to start the simulator, you need the latest version of Java on your computer. If you want to start the simulator directly from your internet browser, it Java applets must be enabled on your browser. To access some of our simulators, you need a specific password. After successfully starting the simulator, a window opens which has the following general structure:

InfluSim simulator: general structure

Left side: parameter input

On the left side of the simulator, you find sliders and input fields, where you can change the values of the parameters. Clicking on the headers, you can select different pages. If you want to change a parameter, just move the slider with your mouse or first klick on the white field next to the slider and then type in the value using your keyboard.
Cave: If you type in values directly, you have to confirm your input by pressing the return button on your keyboard. The left and right borders of the sliders may be changed in the same way, but we strongly discourage any extensions of the slider ragnes.

Immediately after successfully changing the value of a parameter, a new simulation starts. At the bottom of the simulation window, you see a progress bar and the message "Paramter changed, restarting simulation"

Right side: simulation results

On the right side of the simulatro, the results of the simulation are displayed in curves and tables. Clicking on the headers, you can again select different views on the simulation results. If you move the mouse cursor to the curves and press the left mouse button, a vertical line will mark the selected day on the time scale. Immediately the first line of the table will be moved to the selected day. The table values will tell you the exact value of the curves on any given day. The table headers with the coloured squares also serve as figure caption and explain what is displayed in the curves.

Veränderung der Graphik

You may re-scale the axes by moving your mouse cursor over an axis and dragging it to left or right. A single click on an element of the figure caption will remove the corresponding curve from the figure. Another click on the same element will lead to the curve's re-appearance. Double-clicking on an element of the figure caption will select only this curve for display (all other curves disappear). Another double-click on the same element will lead to the re-appearance of all curves.

Re-structuring input and output fields of the simulator

If you move your mouse cursor on the boundary line between input and output side of the simulator, it will change into a horizontal double-arrow. Pressing the left mouse button at this moment will allow you to move this boundary and re-scale the relative size of the input and output side. Likewise the mouse cursor will change into a vertical double-arrow when you reach the boundary between figure and table, and allows you to re-scale the relative sizes of figure and table.
