The Arabidopsis Functional Genomics Network

AFGN-2010 Young Researcher Exchange Program

We are interested in further developing the cooperation already in place between groups in Germany and USA working on functional genomics. Because the size of the AFGN and 2010 programs has grown significantly over the last few years, we suggest that the next level of interaction should be at the bench level. Thus, we provide the possibility to send young investigators from AFGN laboratories for a 1 3 months stay in a host US laboratory. A similar proposal for the other direction, i.e. young US investigators coming to labs in Germany, was submitted to the NSF by representatives of the 2010 program.

In order to represent as many projects as possible, we are requesting funding for airfare (about 800 Euro) and a nominal subsistence allowance during the stay (about 1000 Euro per month). Applications must contain the following items:

  1. Letter of acceptance from the proposed host laboratory
  2. Letter of nomination/recommendation from the AFGN principal investigator of the sending laboratory
  3. Two page description of the research topic and suitability of the research to the goals of both the sponsor and host research groups
  4. Curriculum vitae
  5. Description of previous international experience and how this proposed experience addresses longer term career goals of the applicant

Applications can be sent at any time to the coordinator of AFGN by email attachement (klaus.harter@zmbp.uni-tuebingen.de). The applications will be reviewed and decided by members of the AFGN Steering committee within 1 month.
Group leaders (AFGN principal investigators) are excluded from application.
