:
Macromorphology:
Odontioid, chalky-white, margin thinning out, up to ca. 100 µm thick, aculei up to ca. 70 µm high, 10-15 aculei per mm.
Micromorphology:
- Spores:
- 5.5-7 x 3.5-4.5 µm, ellipsoid up to ovoid, thin-walled, smooth, inamyloid, with one droplet each.
- Basidia:
- 16-22 x 3.5-4.5 µm, young clavate, mature suburniform, with 1-2 constrictions and one basal clamp each.
- Sterigmata:
- Four, 3 µm long.
- Cystidia:
- Capitate cystidia, 20-60 x 4-6 µm, thin-walled. They arise from the hymenium, subhymenium or apex of the aculei. The cystidia are incrusted with a coat of crystalls, which are not soluble in 5% KOH solution.
- Clamps:
- All primary septa with one clamp each.
- Hyphae:
- Hyphal system monomitic. Basal hyphae 2-4 µm in diameter, thin-walled, in direction of the substrate more or less parallel running. Subiculare hyphae 3-5 µm in diameter, thin-walled, strongly incrusted with crystals, loosely hyphal running. Subhymenial hyphae 3-5 µm in diameter, very strongly incrusted with crystals, densely hyphal running. The crystals incrusting the hyphae are not soluble 5% KOH solution. In the hymenium there are many collapsed basidia present. Hyphal branching by subseptal outgrowing or outgrowing of clamps.
- Aculei:
- Hyphae of the aculei 3-5 µm in diameter, thin-walled, very strongly incrusted with crystals. Hyphal endings of the aculei thin-walled, obtuse, slightly subulate or with capitate hyphal endings. The aculei are steril. All crystals era not soluble in 5% KOH solution, Eau de Javelle and Lactophenol.
Habitate and substrate:
All specimens, which are described by Wu (1990), are reported from the ever green, warm temperated, montane mountain forests of Taiwan with high amount of rain fall.
Substrate: dead Angiosperm wood.
Biogeography:
Taiwan.
Remarks:
H. fimbriata could be mixed up with H. sambuci as well as H. griselinae. H. fimbriata and H. sambuci also have a chalky-white hymenium. This character is very conspicuous and is a result of the strong incrustation with crystals of the basidiocarp.
Spores smooth
Hymenium smooth....................H. sambuci
Hymenium odontioid.................H. fimbriata
Spore with feinwarzig ornaments......H. griselinae
