Synonyms:

= Odontia alutacea (Fr.) ssp. floccosa Bourd. & Galz., Hym. de France, S. 423, 1928.
Holotype: France, Lyon, on Pinus sp., leg. M. Josserand, Herbarium PC.
Paratype: France, Allier, Bois de la Pouge, bei St. Priest, on Pinus sylvestris, leg. H. Bourdot, 11.07.1905, No. 6485, Herbarium PC.

Macromorphology:

Resupinate, odontioid, young cream-coloured, mature yellowish to ochraceous, margin thinning out, up to ca. 100 µm thick (exept aculei), aculei standing densely, up to ca. 200 µm high.

Micromorphology:

Spores:
7-9 x 1.5-2 µm, long allantoid, thin-walled, smooth, inamyloid.
Basidia:
15-20 x 4-6 µm, cylindric up to clavate, with one slight suburniformen constriction and one basal clamp each.
Sterigmata:
Four, 2.5 µm long.
Cystidia:
Tubular tramacystidia, 50-100 x 4-6 µm, isolated in hymenium, thick-walled (up to 0.5 µm), apical thin-walled. They arise from the basal hyphae.
Clamps:
All primary septa with one clamp each.
Hyphae:
Hyphal system monomitic. Hyphae of the subhymenium thin-walled, short celled, 2.5-4 µm in diameter. Basal hyphae thick-walled (up to 0.5 µm), 2-4 µm in diameter. Hyphal branching by subseptal outgrowing or outgrowing of the clamps.
Aculei:
Inside the aculei there are clustered and thick-walled tramacystidia.

Habitate and substrate:

In temperate to boreal coniferous forests on strongly decayed coniferous wood: Picea, Pinus, Larix.

Biogeography:

Even in the mycological well investigated Europe only few specimens of H. floccosa were recorded. In Germany only one locality is known (Grosse-Brauckmann 1990). Outside of Europe specimens are recorded only from North America.

Remarks:

H. floccosa could be mixed up with H. subalutacea, which also have narrow allantoid spores and a verrucose hymenium. H. floccosa in contrary has a clearly odontioid hymenium. Even in the young fruit bodies aculei are clearly developed.
Hymenium clearly warzig or odontioid
  Hymenium clearly odontioid.............H. floccosa
  Hymenium warzig........................H. subalutacea
Hymenium totally smooth
Spores wider than 2-2.5 µm.............H. cineracea
Spores more narrow than 2 µm...........H. altaica
