Hemocyte Development
Drosophila hemocytes form in the anterior mesoderm under the control of the GATA factor Serpent. The cells mature and later constitute the cellular aspect of the Drosophila immune system. Most of them act as macrophages, others defend the body chemically.

serpent We investigate the molecular mechanisms determining the hemocyte primordium, the regulation of early Serpent expression and the structure-function-relationship of the Serpent protein.
