The work:

An efficient route for the synthesis and purification of mono-, di-, and tri-fluorodopamines has been developed in our group.

6-fluorodopamine (6-FDA) as a catecholamine related compound is supposed to be specifically incorporated into neuroblastoma cells.

In preliminary studies carried out in the Kinderklinik of Tübingen, 6-FDA proved to posses a specific cytotoxicity which is attributed to the intermediate formation of 6-hydroxydopamine.

The mechanism of the transformation with respect to the metabolism is currently under study using Electron Spin Resonance techniques.
