START (Steinle Alexander Research Team) is part of the Department of Immunology which together with the Department of Molecular Biology constitutes the Interfacultary Institute for Cell Biology at the Eberhard Karls University of Tübingen (www.uni-tuebingen.de). The main research interest of START concerns the molecular mechanisms governing the activation of Natural Killer cells (NK cells) in humans. In this regard, we are not only interested in elucidating basic molecular mechanisms of NK cell activation in order to foster the understanding of NK cell recognition of virus-infected cells and tumors. We also have a profound interest to translate these findings into clinically relevant applications in cooperation with clinicians at the University of Tübingen.
