Theoretische Perspektiven der Europäisierung von Regionen im Ost-West Vergleich

We witness a process of Europeanisation of subnational regions both in the pre-enlargement EU countries and in the new member states. The article addresses the question, which could be a promising theoretical approach to understand (a) the options this process provides for the regions and (b) the policy dimension of regionalisation processes. It comes to the conclusion that current research is in danger to overestimate formal convergence when comparing the Europeanisation of regions and to underestimate and/or overlook its influence on the future fabric of societies and constitutional realities.
