Evidence of health inequality in India during 20th century (Dissertation)
(Click here for a short Video clip)
The dissertation consolidates development of biological welfare of men for the colonial period (1910-1945) and for women during the post-colonial period 1950-1975 in comparison to agricultural productivity. These two chapters also explore economic, cultural and social factors like occupation, social stratification, and religion in determining the inequality. Third part investigates utilization of height data to examine gender differences in biological welfare. The final chapter analyzes simultaneous existence of obesity and malnutrition in India. In sum, my PhD thesis focuses on health inequality. My research supports the existence of inequality in India by region, standard of living, occupation, education and social stratification.
