Open Lecture: Securitization Beyond the West, Democracy and Verbality

Juha Vuori, University of Turku at Thursday, 11 January 2018· 10:00 c.t. · Lecture Room 10, Neue Aula

Juha Vuori is Professor at the Department of Political Science of the University of Turku, where he also earned his doctorate. Previously, he held positions at the University of Tampere and the University of Helsinki and was a visiting researcher at the University of Copenhagen.
His research interests include securitization theory, with a particular focus on its application in non-democratic contexts as well as the visualities of securitization, Chinese foreign and security policy and surveillance studies. In his current project ‘Colours of Security’, he studies the use of colours as elements of political symbolism.
Vuori’s latest publications include Visual Security Studies: Sights and Spectacles of Insecurity and War (co-ed. with Rune Andersen; forthcoming Routledge, 2018) and Critical Security and Chinese Politics: The Anti-Falungong Campaign (Routledge, 2014). His work has been published in Security Dialogue, European Journal of International Relations and Critical Studies on Security.
