Artificial intelligence (AI) poses enormous social, cultural and ethical challenges for our society. But how do (self-)learning systems work and how can they be used? What risks and opportunities are associated with the use of AI? Which systems interact in a truly intelligent way? And how are autonomous algorithmic decision-making systems changing public discourse?
While AI research and applications of generative AI are progressing rapidly, fascination and enthusiasm, but also doubts, skepticism and fears are clashing in the social debate and public discourses. At the same time, politicians at national and European level are beginning to regulate application and research.
The Tübingen Center for Rhetorical Science Communication Research on Artificial Intelligence (RHET AI) is funded by the Volkswagen Foundation as part of the Science Communication to the Power of Three initiative to investigate these discourses from the perspective of impact-oriented rhetoric research.
