Industry on Campus Professorships
The integration of Industry on Campus professorships into the established university structures startet with the Excellence Initiative. New cooperation with the industry at the intersection of basic research and applicaion orientation are thus created. This is an excellent way for the University to break new ground for partnerships with industry and open up new perspectives for applied research.
The first Industry on Campus Professorship was established in November 2012. The chair was formerly held by Dr. Boris Hofmann of Aesculap AG within the Institute for Applied Physics and was focused on intelligent neuroimplants.
The second Industry on Campus Professorship is held by Dr. Siegfried Wahl of the Zeiss Vision Holding GmbH. Since August 2014 he and his research group at the Institute for Ophthalmic Research are working on the complex interaction of light waves, the eye, the natural crystalline lens and cut eyeglass lens, an interaction which to this day is far from being fully comprehended. A further aspect of his research lies on the processing of the picture created on the retina in the brain.
