COVID-19 and the sports industry

8.7.2020 – Yesterday evening, Tim Pawlowski (Professor of Sport Economics at the University of Tübingen) discussed the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the sports industry as part of an online lecture series offered by the Faculty of Economics and Social Sciences.

In the first part of his presentation, he addressed some stylized facts of the professional team sports industry which might explain why this sector was affected particularly hard and fast. In the second part, Tim Pawlowski discussed some recent empirical findings from a research project – funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG) and the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNF) – which suggest that also the general labour market might be affected in the long-run.
