Certificate of good conduct

All persons who will be employed at the University of Tuebingen must apply for a certificate of good conduct in advance. You cannot sign your employment contract without a certificate of good conduct.

Applying for a certificate of good conduct from within the country:

  1. You must apply for a Fuehrungszeugnis zur Vorlage bei einer Behoerde, if anybody asks which.
  2. Certificates of good conduct from other countries cannot be accepted by the University of Tuebingen.
  3. The certificate of good conduct must have been issued no more than three months before the planned start of the employment contract.
  4. It can take up to six weeks fot he certificate of good conduct to be issued. Therefore, please apply for it in good time.
  5. The "certificate of good conduct for submission to a public authority" can be applied for directly at your local registration office (Citizen's Office, city hall) or online at https://www.fuehrungszeugnis.bund.de/.   6. You will have to pay the fee for a certificate of good conduct yourself. It is currently 13 EUR and can also be paid online.
  7. For the application, you will need an or the number of your electronic residence permit.
  8. After your application, the certificate will be sent by mail to the University of Tuebingen's Human Resources Department.
  9. If you have questions as to whether the certificate of good conduct has already arrived at the University, please contact your institute.

Applying for a certificate of good conduct from abroad:

  1. Read the attached form carefully.
  2. Fill out the form (sender, personal information). You can leave the fields for reference number and contact person of the university empty.
  3. Sign the form.
  4. Print the cover letter (Begleitbrief) and take it with you to demonstrate the purpose for the notarization to the legislation authority.
  5. Have your signature officially certified/notarized.
  6. Transfer 13,- EUR to the Bundesamt für Jutiz (Department of Justice). You will find the account on the second page of the form under No. 2.
  7. Send the form, the cover letter, and the receipt of your bank transfer by mail to the address of the Bundesamt für Justiz, which can be found on the top left of the form.
  8. Then you will have to wait until your host institute informs you that the university has received the certificate of good conduct.
