Senate confirms the Vice-President for Academic Affairs for a further term of office to 2026

Karin Amos, Vice-President for Academic Affairs

The University of Tübingen Senate has confirmed Professor Karin Amos as Vice-President for Academic Affairs for a further term term of office. At the Senate meeting on Thursday she was re-elected unopposed. Amos will thus serve as part-time Vice-President for three more years starting October 1, 2023. Karin Amos, Professor of General Education at the University of Tübingen, has been Vice-President of Academic Affairs since 2013. The educationalist studied to be a teacher of English and History. After working in Oakland, California; Vienna; and Frankfurt am Main, she has been teaching and conducting research at the University of Tübingen since 2006.

During her tenure as Vice-President, she has been involved in a wide range of issues, including the conversion of teacher training programs to the Bachelor's/ Master's system, the establishment of the Tübingen School of Education and the gradual expansion of online teaching services. During the particularly challenging period of the Coronavirus pandemic, this development was significantly accelerated. At the same time, after the end of the pandemic, Amos consistently focused on bringing lecturers and students back to campus.

"The past two semesters have been about getting back into a normal university routine and cushioning the impact of the pandemic period," says Karin Amos. She adds that the University is continuing to push ahead with embedding online elements into classroom teaching. The further internationalization of teaching remains an important topic for the coming years.

She is keen to integrate the focus on diversity and inclusion more closely into University processes. She plans to promote greater collaboration between the faculties and students. To this end, a new committee will be dedicated to the design of learning communities. "We want to optimize the communication flows. With the participation of students, the area of study and teaching should be able to develop in an innovative and stimulating way,” says Amos.
