Universities have a special joint responsibility for shaping transformation processes. In addition to the core tasks of research and teaching, the so-called 'third mission' - the transfer with practice - plays an increasing role. The transfer field of action is characterized by a dialogical, partnership-based exchange between universities and actors from business, politics and civil society in order to jointly build knowledge and work on concrete strategies for action. In the area of sustainability in particular, there is excellent potential for aligning research and teaching more closely with societal issues and seeking answers to concrete sustainability problems in a dialog between science and society. In this way, the university has an impact on society and at the same time receives impulses from social actors.
