University of Tübingen Founds Research Center for Science Communication

LEAD member Olaf Kramer becomes director

The University of Tübingen is founding a Research Center for Science Communication, which will be led in future by Olaf Kramer, Professor of Rhetoric and Knowledge Communication and member of the LEAD Graduate School & Research Network. The university is thus responding to the urgent need for professional communication between science and the public.

The university's Institute for Media Studies, the Hector Research Institute of Education Sciences and Psychology and the Leibniz Institute for Knowledge Media (IWM) as a non-university partner will act as cooperation partners for the new center.

"Science is communicated through more and more channels," explains Director Kramer, who has been part of LEAD's research network since 2016. "Only an interdisciplinary center is able to analyse and present these diverse ways and effects of science communication."

Since science communication, in contrast to corporate communication, is still a young field of research, the need for scientific work in this area is great, Kramer adds. Tübingen he said is ideally suited as a location for these challenges.

"Our university can boast outstanding researchers in all fields relevant to this topic - from educational research to computer science, cognitive and media sciences, psychology and rhetoric."
