Development process of the Guidelines for Leadership and Good Management

Process retrospective

  • The participatory development of the Guidelines for Leadership and Good Management began as early as July 2020. The members of the President’s office (President and Vice-Chancellor, Executive Vice-President, Vice-Presidents) agreed on their understanding of leadership at the University of Tübingen.
  • All employees of the University of Tübingen had the opportunity to contribute their own ideas, perceptions and experiences to the development process. In facilitated workshops that began in March 2021, employees from academia, technology and administration - with and without leadership responsibility - jointly elaborated how good leadership results in excellent outcomes and exemplary collaboration.
  • In order to represent the diversity of disciplines and professional groups at the University of Tübingen, a university-internal panel of experts was formed. The representatives of the Expert Panel are characterized by the fact that exemplary leadership behavior and cooperation are important concerns for them, that they hold central functions at the university and that they participate in the implementation of the Guidelines for Leadership and Good Management as facilitators.
  • The draft of the Guidelines for Leadership and Good Management integrated the perspectives of the various professional groups represented at the university over a period of ten months. Continuous editing work was carried out by a team of employees from Personnel Development, Public Relations Department and our external consultant. The university management accompanied the process and decided on the final formulations. In the final phase, the new Guidelines for Leadership and Good Management were submitted to the Staff Council, the Structural Commission and the University Senate for review, discussion and approval.
