Crossways in European Humanities
Un/Doing the Social
Social issues have long been the subject of inquiry in the humanities as well as the social sciences under the triadic heading of 'race/ethnicity, class and gender. Current theoretical assumptions and approaches in all these disciplines converge on questions of whether and how such social differential inscriptions are a process and a result of specific techniques of interpellation and of performative displays:
'doing gender', doing class' etc., in fact, 'doing' any aspect of the social field. But any 'doing' also implies the possibilities of an 'undoing', of techniques of resisting interpellation, of the existence of spaces in which social differentials are in fact ignored, rewritten, not enforced or unenforcable.
Courses can be taken in English in the following disciplines: Gender Studies, British Studies, American Studies.
