Since Russia's invasion of Ukraine, all eyes are on the war. At the same time, a cost of living crisis has shaken Europe. But are there any tensions between welfare and defence spending as money is tight? And how could they be resolved? Philippe Van Parijs discusses challenges of fighting for a social Europe during times of war and reflects on pathways towards a just EUropean Union.
