University of Tübingen

The Eberhard Karls Universität Tübingen is one of Europe’s oldest universities. Several hundred years of history in the sciences and humanities have been written here.

The University's history began in 1477, when Count Eberhard “the Bearded” of Württemberg founded the University. In Tübingen’s historical center there is hardly a building or a square that is not linked to a renowned scholar. Tübingen notables include Hegel, Hölderlin and Schelling, Mörike and Uhland, Johannes Kepler and Wilhelm Schickard.

Tübingen today remains a place of research and teaching. In addition to the nearly 85,500 inhabitants, there are some 28,300 German and international students. Some 450 professors and 4.400 other academic staff teach at the University’s seven faculties.

“International since 1477” – the perfect way to summarize the University of Tübingen.

About Tübingen

The city of Tübingen, which is located in the heart of South-West Germany, offers plenty of activities and places for sightseeing. Explore Tübingen's old town with small frame houses and narrow alleys. Take a look at Tübingen and its surroundings from above at the castle, or take a stroll on the isle in the Neckar ("Neckarinsel") and enjoy the view of the colored houses facing the Neckar.

A room in the castle is also the location of our workshop. The castle was built in the 11th century on top of a hill, which is now in the center of Tübingen.

The Castle had already been used widely by the university from 1816. As a result, the interior is only slightly reminiscent of its former residents. However, during a visit to the museum some of the preserved rooms can be visited, such as the splendid tripartite oriel in the knights' hall from 1537 and the rotunda in the tower of 1507.If you are interested in ancient cultures, the  museum in the castle (at our venue) is a prime address.

Do not miss the opportunity to walk around at the city's Christmas Market, which is scheduled to take place December 9th-11th. You can find information about Tübingen's history at the city museum.

The conference dinner will take place at the Weinstube Forelle (see map).
