Summary

The BRI1-associated kinase BAK1 is a positive regulatory hub in multiple receptor kinase (RK)-mediated signaling pathways and cell death control. BAK1 itself is kept under control by BAK1-interacting RK (BIR) family proteins. We revealed that intracellular immune receptors are involved in BAK1/BIR-mediated cell death. The repertoire and specificity of cell death components will finally be determined. Another BIR3-interacting protein HIR2 will be analyzed for its function in nanocluster formation and how it contributes to plant innate immunity by potentially organizing membrane localized intra- and extracellular immune receptors for linking pattern- and effector-triggered immunity.
