May group: Electrochemical interfaces

The Emmy-Noether group of Matthias May at the IPTC works on structural investigations and the manipulation of electrochemical interfaces by experimental and computational methods since the end of 2021. Optical reflection anisotropy spectroscopy is used to study the interfacial structure between electrodes and electrolytes as a function of the applied potential. A focus of the studied materials are high-efficiency photoelectrochemical solar cells based on III-V semiconductors, but also metal electrodes for electrocatalysis and batteries. The interpretation of experimental spectra is complemented by computational spectroscopy and density functional theory.
